Add a custom domain

This guide explains how to add a domain in Flowshop admin, configure the correct DNS records, and check that the domain is verified before publishing the store.

1. Open Domains and create a domain

Open Domains in admin and click Create domain. Enter the domain without any additional path, for example example.com, and click Save.

2. Choose domain settings

In the settings, you can choose whether the domain should add a redirect (301). You can also enable geo-redirect if the entire domain should direct visitors to the store's homepage for their country based on their IP address.

Then select Primary country. This country is used as the default country when customers visit the store from this domain. If geo-redirect is enabled and the visitor's country cannot be determined, the base country is used.

3. Add DNS records with your provider

Once you have saved the domain, the Check DNS records page appears in admin. Log in to your domain provider and open the DNS management settings for the domain. Add the records shown in admin, usually an A record and an AAAA record with the name @. Always copy the values from your own domain in admin, as they may differ between domains. You cannot use a CNAME for a root domain. If your provider supports ALIAS or ANAME, you can instead point the root to shops.flowshop.com.

4. Check verification and SSL

Go back to the domain in admin and check the status. The DNS records should be shown as OK and the SSL certificate as Active. Click Check status if you want to start a new check.

DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours. Flowshop checks automatically until the domain is ready. Once the domain has been verified, its status appears as Verified in the domain list.

5. Link the country to the verified domain

Once the domain's status is Verified, open Countries in admin and select the country that will use the domain. Select the verified domain in the Domain field. At the same time, check that the primary language, any secondary languages, currency, and time zone are configured correctly.

A country can be marked as the Base country. It is used as the default when the visitor's country cannot be determined. Save the country settings, then check that the country appears as Active and that the correct domain is shown in the country list.

6. Check the store and publish

Open the store using the new domain and check the homepage, navigation, products, prices, shipping, payment, and terms and conditions. It is also a good idea to test an order. Once everything is working, save the changes and publish the store.
